Margaret test drove her new blender with some farmers market green-juice and lusted after inlaid mirrors for her new digs.

Aubrey took advantage of the awesome outdoor space at Crown Victoria in Brooklyn (see the Williamsburg Bridge hiding back there?) and whipped up this delectable homemade-brussel-sprout-hash-with-a-fried-egg-over-grits. Yum.

Allison B. set aside some much needed QT with this sweet monster (nestled), found this incredible portrait/treasure for her kitchen (nested), and celebrated National Lobster Week in high style (bested).

Emily showed her roof deck (!) some love- grilling up some chicken and peppers on a beautiful summer evening by night, and celebrating the city views and her newly planted flower box by day.

Susannah took the scenic route to a (very cold!) swimming hole, worked up an appetite for an orchard-cherry stinky-cheese snack attack, and caught some awesome live music.

Where did the weekend take you?

If you’ve been following our calendar you’d know that today is National Lobster Day! Unlike other arbitrary-seeming-national-days (tweed day? eight-track tape day?) we’ll be celebrating this one in full force. How? We’re planning on heading over to the Brooklyn Flea to snag some toasty buttery lobster roll love from thank-goodness-it’s-back-open-after-hurricane-Sandy Red Hook Lobster pound. However you decide to celebrate, we hope you have a buttery Saturday too.

On the list of our favorite things (some of these being lingerie, champagne, fresh flowers, a good playlist — we really needn’t go on…) is multitasking. We all know it’s a useful little habit, so why not do it more often?

Here’s an example of multitasking we especially like: fruit in a cocktail. Yep, get your fruits + your fizz in one place.  This Kiwi Capiroska (the vodka loaded little sister of the caipirinha) is looking especially good right about now and the Princesse Tam Tam Oisive set is looking equally refreshing. Drink/Delicate= multitasking at it’s finest.

Kiwi Capiroska
Makes 6 (you decide who to share them with)

Ingredients:
2 cups kiwi, peeled and diced
12 mint leaves, divided
2 tablespoons sugar, divided
3 limes, juiced
2 cups high quality vodka
2 cups tonic water (or coconut flavored sparkling water)
ice cubes
garnish:
1 kiwi, peeled and thinly sliced

Directions:
1. Line six glasses up and fill each with 1/3 cup of diced kiwis, 2 mint leaves, 1 teaspoon sugar, and ½ lime juiced.
2. Muddle together the contents of each glass until fully combined.
3. Fill each glass with ice and top off with 1/3 cup vodka and 1/3 cup tonic water.
4. Stir, finish each with a kiwi garnish and serve.

Allison had a rooftop rosé picnic, a peony explosion (we told you), and reveled in the deliciousness of the burger at her go-to-neighborhood-haunt Prune (hot sauce required).

Emily scoured NYC’s flower district for some sweet blooms to adorn her fire-escape garden before hitting the coast for some much needed out-of-the-city R&R at Robert Moses State Park.

Suzy hit up Sockerbit, a Scando-Sweet heaven in the West Village, picking up skull-shaped gummies from Sweden and sour peach drops from Denmark.

Susannah snagged some U-Pick organic strawberries and an epic sunburn that kept her inside after the first perfect beach day of the season, watching tropical storm Andrea rolling out from the comfort of a good beach read.

Aubrey walked that perfect line between shrimp cocktail+cocktail cocktail with this perfect Sunday brunch bloody.

Margaret cleaned up shop at the Bauble Bar Pop Up in Soho, spent some QT with the ‘rents (a.k.a. her besties), did some fabulous antique hunting for her new apt.

Despite the fact that the typical Journelle workday often includes such “action items” as champagne-fueled brainstorming sessions, debates over the merits of stockings vs. stay-ups (it’s a dead tie), and romper rompability-testing, even we lingerie mavens long for Friday. And, because we are lingerie mavens, we spend most of the afternoon daydreaming about what delectable thing we’re going to slip into and what delicious thing we’re going to sip out of when we (finally) get home after a long week. Today’s Drink+Delicate is a homemade rhubarb simple syrup champagne cocktail+Lou’s sweet-tart Piccadilly set. Hello, Friday.

Rhubarb Simple Syrup
Makes about 2 cups

3-4 stalks rhubarb, chopped
1 cup sugar
1 cup water

In a saucepan over moderately-high heat, bring rhubarb, sugar, and water to a boil. Lower heat and simmer for 15 minutes until rhubarb is softened. Strain mixture, mashing rhubarb to extract as much liquid from it as possible. Allow to cool, and transfer to a jar. Store in the fridge for up to three weeks.

Add a spoonful to a glass of champagne as needed, garnish with lace.

If you know anything about us by now, it should come as no surprise that “fresh flowers” is on our extremely short list of absolute necessities (right after “silk dressing gown” and “bar around the corner where they know our name by heart”). Though we have nothing but love for year-round-bodega-staples like gerber daisies, hydrangeas, and—if we’re lucky—big old stargazer lilies, it’s the peony that captures our hearts. Maybe it’s because their season is so fleeting, that their perfume so subtle and delicate, or that their petals are just so soft and lovely as they unfurl. Whatever it is, we Journelle ladies love peonies so much we have them printed on pretty much anything that will stand still. Needless to say, a fresh peony bloom on our bedside table is just the thing to take an ordinary Wednesday and turn it into something extraordinary. It seems as if some of our favorite lady-bloggers are feeling the peony love too.
