Sweet Spring Colors

Nothing says spring like macarons and cappuccinos, right? Well… maybe not.  But when we came across this beautiful photo on The Glitter Guide, images of some of our favorite spring pieces immediately came to mind. From Simone Perele’s gorgeous green Pompadour demi bra and thong, to Ari Dein’s sweet Peggy Chemise, to Jenna Leigh’s sunny Memba set, vibrant hues are giving us spring fever. But neutrals will always have a place in our hearts and Huit’s Lucky Doll set and the Kitty Cupless bra and ouvert from Lascivious are two of our favorites right now. Coffee, cookies, and lovely lingerie? Sounds like heaven to us…

Making your Met Ball Dreams a Reality

Forget the Oscars- the Costume Institute Gala, held at the New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art each year (aka, the Met Ball), is the hottest red carpet around. With models, celebs, and fashion icons everywhere you look, there’s always bound to be some lust-worthy couture. And this year’s #MetBall, which kicked off the exhibit entitled Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations, didn’t disappoint.

Gwynnie in Prada, Beyonce in Givenchy, Rihanna in Tom Ford. Sigh… what we’d give to be able to prance around in those gorgeous gowns for a night! Unfortunately we aren’t close, personal friends with the designers (and we haven’t reached international celebrity status yet). So we’ll settle for replicating the looks under our J.Crew, Anthropologie, and H&M

Lingerie for your big day

Weddings. Maybe you’ve dreamed of yours (and the subsequent happily ever after) since you were little. Or maybe marriage wasn’t really your focus, but you’ve met someone pretty great and decided it might not be so bad. Either way, you’re getting hitched and you’ve got some planning to do. But instead of spending all your time stressing over menus and invitations and seating charts, why not take a break and focus on something fun. Lingerie. You’ll want something gorgeous under your gown that makes you feel as beautiful as you look. And let’s be honest, it’s probably about all you’ll be wearing on your honeymoon, amiright? So take a few moments, and a few deep breaths, and revel in the lovely, lacy underthings that dreams are made of. I do, indeed…

Earth Day Lingerie

There are plenty of ways to celebrate Mother Earth this April 22nd- recycling, planting a garden, wearing eco-friendly lingerie. All great options. But we think the last one sounds like the most fun, don’t you? So we’ve rounded up our selection of products perfect for Earth Day (and everyday). The cute, comfy Huit is Biotiful set by Huit is made from organic hand dyed cotton and is adorned with miniature shell buttons and gorgeous, gorgeous ecru lace. For a more geometric look, we love the Harness Triangle Bra and Strappy thong from eco-chic label Bazsarosa. From perennial fan favorite Eberjey’s Eco line come the Nadine robe and Butterfly Valley chemise, perfect for cozying up with a cup of organic, fair trade coffee. And once you’ve worn all these gorgeous pieces, fear not, you can just wash them with Soak and The Laundress (also eco-friendly).

Staff Spotlight: Meet Suzy

Now, we don’t mean to brag or anything, but we think our visuals (think emails, window displays, the very images you see on this blog) are pretty great. Classic but never boring, fun but never cheesy.  It’s a hard balance to strike, but we do it pretty effortlessly thanks to our amazing design team. And a major part of that team is Suzy, our junior graphic designer who never ceases to amaze us with her lightning-fast Photoshop skills and her awesome shoe collection.

Here she dishes on her favorite lingerie designer (Stella McCartney), her beauty must-haves, and her bad habits…

A big thank you!

We always look forward to our annual Spring Cleaning Bra Drive, but this year we were especially excited. Not only were we able to offer our Journelles 20% off their lovely new bras when they brought in ones that were ready for retirement, but we had found an amazing charity that we couldn’t wait to work with. Free the Girls is a non-profit committed to helping women rescued from sex trafficking in Mozambique to become financially independent by selling used bras in the country’s thriving local markets. Lingerie and largesse? What could be better?

So we started spreading the word and crossed our fingers, hoping that people would love the concept as much as we did. And we were overwhelmed by the response! There were Tweets, Facebook likes, and blog posts galore! And the bras started pouring in from all over the country. 734 of them to be exact. So this is our “thank you!” to all of you. We couldn’t have done any of this without you and are so proud to have such an amazing group of women as our customers!

Spring Sugar Rush

We can all agree that spring is pretty great. Longer days, warmer weather, smiling faces… it doesn’t get much better that that. Or does it? The arrival of spring also heralds the arrival of something much greater. “Whatever could it be?” you ask in disbelief. Budding romance? Blooming flowers? Shining sun? No.

Easter Candy.

And just as Easter candy inspires us to abandon our New Year’s diets, we’re pretty certain that it inspires lingerie designers the world over to create pieces that are, in a word, delicious. From La Perla’s Vintage Lace Bra and Hipster to Eberjey’s Eloisa Bralet and Brief, from Claudette’s Dessous Mesh Bra and Bikini to Samantha Chang’s All Lace Built Up Longline Bra and Boyshort, we find ourselves drooling over the spring goodies piling into stores. Happy Spring indeed.

Journelle’s Spring Cleaning Bra Drive

We are so excited to announce our 2012 Spring Cleaning Bra Drive! Every year we ask our lovely Journelles to bring in their used bras in exchange for a discount on a pristine new one. We then donate all the bras we collect to charity. This year we’re happy to say that this year we’ll be donating to a wonderful organization called Free the Girls, which is a non-profit committed to helping women rescued from sex trafficking to become financially independent. All of the bras you donate will go to a woman in Mozambique who will be able to sell them at local markets, earn a living, and start a new life. We can’t think of better use for all those bras stashed in the back of our drawers.

Even better, The Laundress has donated a ton of samples of their famous lingerie wash, which we’re giving out to all customers who drop off a bra. And the icing on the cake? Journelle will donate a buck a bra to Free the Girls to help with shipping costs to Mozambique.

See our spring cleaning page for full details on how you can help!

And if you need some more inspiration to take a rummage in the back of your bra drawers, here is a CNN story about how the organization got started:

This next video has stories directly from the women in the program:

Staff spotlight: Meet Sus, our genius copy writer!

Not to brag, but we think our product descriptions are some of the cheekiest and smartest around. If you’ve ever read them, you’ll know that they’re filled with obscure music references, nods to historical figures, and words that sometimes require us to bust out the online dictionary. And they never fail to make us laugh. Who knew lingerie could be described with such rich words or that a Stella Mccartney bra could be compared to Saarinen’s furniture?

All credit goes to Susannah, our brilliant copy writer. Learn about the music that inspires her, her favorite lingerie piece this spring season (Simone Perele), and why velour tracksuits just aren’t her thing…
