When the going gets chilly (as it does every winter in the city), we always find ourselves excited to slurp down our first ramen bowl of the season. While we have our go-to spots that never disappoint (the eternal dilemma: Momofuku vs. Ippudo?!) sometimes, when we’re feeling a bit daring, we stray away to richer, headier, umamier pastures. It was during one of those moments of pork belly exploration that we found R.O.K.C. (ramen, oysters, and kitchen cocktails, if you’re wondering) in Harlem. Let’s just say, it was love at first slurp, shuck, and sip.
This gem is quickly gaining props for being one of the best places in NYC for a bowl of noodles and we totally get it. With both the brains behind Totto Ramen and Angel’s Share alum, R.O.K.C. obviously has their food and drink choices on point, but we’re really head over heels for the presentation (seriously, check out the Instagram love…light bulbs, sugar skulls, uh, is that a birds nest??). Case in point: on our most recent visit we were pleasantly surprised to discover the three-ingredient cocktail we ordered was not only a mixologist’s paradise but had been anointed with burning sage to “rid us of bad spirits.” We’ll take that over a full-detox cleanse any day.
