As lingerie enthusiasts, we have always been down for wearing innerwear as outerwear. We’ll rock slip dresses, silky camis, and bodysuits on the regular (shameless Snapchat plug to follow @shopjournelle as we highlight who wore #lingeriestyle best), but even as risqué as we go, we’re still only just. now. getting into full on all-day, ready-for-our-close-up, hyper-glamorous territory. Our current obsession? Violet & Wren’s silk turban…and collection in general. Which, of course, is why we had to have them for our Emerging Designers Class of 2016.
The moment we laid our eyes on the vibrant colors and painterly prints our imaginations ran wild…How to appropriately style a robe for the office? How to rock a turban on a Tuesday (again, at work)? Just slipping one of their pieces on is pure luxury and feels like wearing a piece of art. Read on for the brand’s creators Helen & Louise’s influences, obsessions and first loves below.
Voted: Best Dressed
Home: London, England
Known For: Luxurious loungewear, stunning, hand-painted prints and whimsical yet wearable (beyond the bedroom) pieces.
Inspiration: The main focus of each collection are our botanical prints, so flowers and foliage are always the starting point—trips to flower markets, botanical gardens and even the a local park. For silhouettes, we look at catwalks, vintage clothing and fabrics, even details on handbags or a piece of furniture which might have a lovely clasp or trim. We are always inspired by everything around us and this helps ensure we have plenty of ideas, which means that each collection has a unique look.
Motive: We wanted to create pieces that would have longevity and be treasured for their inherent beauty. Pieces that could transcend the home environment and be styled with our everyday wardrobe; paired with relaxed denims, casual tees and cashmere knits, offering a more directional and refreshing approach to luxury. Loungewear that would have as much relevance outside of the bedroom as in it.
Best advice you have ever received: Always keep a notebook by your bed—running our own business means it can be very difficult to turn off. Very simple and very effective!
First Lingerie Love:
Helen: The first bra I ever bought myself was a soft grey marl jersey bralette with white bindings—I was very sporty, and I felt very grown up. I absolutely adored it!
Louise: A black lace bra I bought on one of my first shopping trips to Paris. I bought it in a little boutique— it is so chic and comfortable and I still have it!
