Although we’re self proclaimed lingerie addicts around these parts, it doesn’t mean we’re all lingerie, all the time. We lust over all aspects of fashion, and a steady stream of beauty products have been filling our bathrooms since we got our first paychecks. Every now and again it’s fun to leave the lace behind and geek out over lipsticks, eye creams and luxurious fragrances. Luckily, we have Alex, beauty expert over at beauty skincare brand Onomie, to chat all things girly and glamourous with (you may remember her flawless product recommendations from her morning routine post). We caught up with Alex over a quick coffee break— so read on for some killer skincare ingredients and the best chocolate chip cookies in the city.
How did you get involved in the beauty industry? Is it somewhere you always saw yourself working?
I originally set out to work in fashion PR with beauty always existing on the side as a hobby. However, I could not (and still can’t) deny the euphoric feeling I got when surrounded by cosmetics. To this day, swatching, testing, and talking all things beauty makes me happy, and thankfully that’s a large part of my job.
When you’re not working you can be found….
How has working at Onomie helped shape your beauty philosophy?
It has made me more thoughtful about my beauty products, from both an ingredient and efficiency standpoint.
How do you stay on top of trends? What magazines/ websites do you frequently read?
I have been a little bit short on time lately, so my hack for staying up with trends is following the stylists of the most stylish. People like Monica Rose have a roster of “It Girl” clients and are always ahead of the curve– plus, she posts all the outfit details on her Instagram, score! I am also a big fan of Refinery29 for all things beauty and lifestyle.
Favorite skincare ingredients?
Retinol (the number one recommended for both acne and anti-aging), Camellia Oil (extremely moisturizing for hair and face), and hyaluronic acid (moisturizes and plumps the skin).
Favorite NYC spots?
Levain Bakery for hands down the best CCC’s ever (my code for chocolate chip cookies). The Highline, but only at night when it’s peaceful. And DUMBO Brooklyn, where I still wish for a miraculous Dan Humphrey sighting.
You are limited to 3 products for the rest of your life….what are they?
Aqua di Gioa by Giorgio Armani.
Other than Onomie, what brands are you addicted to?
What’s your mantra both in beauty and in life?
“Be fearless in the pursuit of what sets your soul on fire.”
