Behind Closed Drawers: Lauren of Onomie

| Everything Else

Why does the idea of makeup that actually benefits your skin feel like the white wale of beauty quests? We want to simplify our morning routines, look refreshed, and treat our skin right, but letsbehonest we need to do all of that in a snap. How else would we have time to pick out our #lingeriestyle for the day, grab coffee, and hit the gym/farmer’s market/snooze button before we hit the office? Thankfully, we’ve trimmed our morning-mirror-time down because of the beauty genius that is Onomie. The A.C.E. Illuminating Eye Treatment and the Bright Concealing Elixir does “exactly what it says on the tin”: covers dark circles under the eyes and reduces those circles over time. Plus, we’re loving the NYC-based brand’s commitment to empowering women: from honoring female leaders and brilliant ladies in the naming of their products to partnering with She’s the First, a non-profit that focuses on empowering girls through educational scholarships. Pretty, Smart. Company founder Lauren gives us a glimpse behind closed drawers, letting us know that we’re not alone in loving a good British accent and that it’s perfectly ok to have a Pinterest board of cat pics (finally, validation). A woman after our own hearts.

Name: Lauren Hoffman

Day job: Co-founder of Onomie

Necessary extravaganceA signature jacket. I’m currently eying a few of The Arrival’s fall pieces.

Simple indulgence: Great stationery or cards that will put a smile on someone’s face, fresh Icelandic Poppies from the Union Square market, and cat videos.

Two Truths and a Lie:

  • I was valedictorian of my high school.
  • When I was 13, I danced classical ballet in Tokyo with four dancers who now professionally dance in New York City Ballet.
  • I went skydiving as a Valentine’s Day gift and it’s still my favorite gift.

What makes your heart race? Going up too many flights of stairs, one or two people, and finding out good news about Onomie!

Plane, Train, or AutomobileAutomobile. As long as I am not driving, because I don’t know how to. I can stare out the window for hours just daydreaming. Plus, I can be a pretty good DJ.

On my bedside table: Piles and piles of books—my go to stack includes The Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion and Just Kids by Patti Smith. A jar of melatonin because I’m never sleeping enough.

Pinky Swear: I have a Pinterest board called “undateable” filled with cat photos. It’s a joke between my friend and I that we are single because we love cats so much. Meanwhile, she is no longer single and I’m still pinning cats.

Favorite diveYou can find me at the Rusty Knot or Tom & Jerry’s quite frequently.

One food you could eat foreverMy mother’s red beans and rice. She has to make it though.

Gotta girl crush? I’m obsessed with Emma Watson and Cara Delevingne…maybe it is a British thing? I am a sucker for an accent.

Whats your lingerie drawer stocked with? I have enough underwear to get me through about two months. Never enough socks though.

Bralettes or wired bras? Bralettes in theory, wired in practice.

Matching sets or let creativity take over? Let creativity take over, although almost everything is black so that’s not that creative.

Favorite lounge piece? Jogger sweatpants by Outdoor Voices

On a warm Spring day youd find meLaying in a park drinking and listening to music with close friends.

What beauty item can you not do without? Slightly biased but I’m pretty partial to Onomie’s A.C.E. Illuminating Eye Treatment.

I cant leave the apartment until II have to spritz whatever fragrance I am obsessed with at the moment. My go to’s are Kiehl’s Musk, Rose 31 by Le Labo and Frederic Malle L’Eau d’Hiver.

Best make-up tip you ever received: My first job post college was working for Giorgio Armani Beauty and the team had the best makeup artists. They instructed me to highlight the outer eye area to make myself look more awake and accentuate my cheekbones. It is one of the reasons I became obsessed with making our A.C.E. Illuminating Eye Treatment.

Beauty trend your teen-self obsessed over: I would sneak into my mother’s bathroom and apply her Prescriptives Magic Liquid Powder. Half the fun was putting it on because it has this amazing cooling sensation.

Whats your theme song? This completely depends on my mood and I can be moody but here are a few:
