In our third and final designer Q&A leading up to Fashion’s Night Out on September 8th (and Journelle’s Young Lingerie Designer Trunk Show!) Adam Sakara, designer of the gorgeous line La Fée Verte talk to us about Paris, Absinthe, and his chic, sophisticated brand of lingerie…
(1) Why did you name your brand “La Fée Verte”?
La Fée Verte has always reminded me of nineteenth century Paris, as it is the affectionate French nickname given to the celebrated drink, Absinthe. This was also the same time that the concept of lingerie as visually appealing undergarments was developed. Lady Duff-Gordon of Lucile was a pioneer in developing lingerie that freed women from more restrictive corsets. For me, the ideas go hand-in-hand and are a way to reference the origins and history of intimates.
(2) How do you design lingerie that is both sexy yet sophisticated?
Our lingerie styles are undeniably sexy, yet our luxurious fabrics and close attention to delicate details emphasize the sophistication and style of each garment. Rather than simply focusing on sexy, La Fee Verte lingerie is designed to reflect the femininity and individuality of its wearer.
(3) Why should women begin to wear “innerwear as outerwear”?
Whether it’s a French lace bralette layered under a sheer blouse, or a silk camisole paired with dark denim, incorporating innerwear as outerwear is a great way to put together a unique and subtly sexy look. Intentionally exposing a delicate piece of well-designed lingerie can instantly transform and personalize an outfit.
(4) What 3 lingerie pieces should every woman own?
A silk romper, lacy bralette, and a flirty pair of tap shorts.
(5) What are your favorite lingerie looks for AW11?
A silk teddy, kimono and luxe silk pajama set to keep warm on cold winter nights.
(6) Who are your style icons?
Brigitte Bardot, Lauren Bacall, Rita Hayworth, and Jane Birkin who balanced simple, timelessly classic style with sultry sex appeal.
Thank you to Adam, Kriss, and Enikö for taking the time to answer our questions! We can’t wait to see them (and you!) at Fashion’s Night Out this Thursday, September 8th!
