Lingerie newcomer Brulee caught our attention last year with their delectable line of teddies, and we could hardly keep them in stock for the holidays. Since then, Kristian Giambi’s flawless design taste keeps us excited for season after season. Our latest favorite, featured in a New York Times article last week, sold out within days.
Claire: What is the inspiration behind Brulee?
Kristian: Modern glamour with an edge.
You have a degree in Visual Communications and a love of art. When did you realize you wanted to be a lingerie designer?
Kristian: I got into designing intimates when I wasn’t finding the lingerie and loungewear I wanted. I was inspired to design undergarments that women would feel feminine and beautiful in, but without the frills and lace.
How would you describe your design aesthetic?
Kristian: Classic pieces that are glamorous yet have an edgy twist.
You’ve spotted the quintessential Brulee woman walking down the street. What is she like?
Kristian: The Brulee woman exudes strength, inner beauty and above all – confidence!
What is your favorite piece in your new Fall collection?
Kristian: The Vamp Teddy
Do you have a favorite material you just love working with?
Kristian: I work mostly with silks and jersey. I love the contrast in textures, like the shine of silk against the sheer and soft finish of chiffon.
How excited are you for your trunk show at Journelle for Fashion’s Night Out?
Kristian: I am extremely excited! This is our very first trunk show so we are looking forward to interacting with customers directly – and we couldn’t have asked for a better location or date our first time out than Journelle on Fashion’s Night Out!
